John Grasso
Treasurer 2018-2019
Aloha! I am from Buffalo, NY so it is given that I love the snow, chicken wings, and I am part of the #BillsMafia. And yes, I do realize that I am not living in the right area to support the Buffalo Bills. I finished my undergraduate degree in chemical engineering from SUNY University at Buffalo and graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2017. After my undergraduate education, I knew that I did not feel qualified to be beneficial to a company so I decided to pursue further education to sharpen my skills. I am currently a first year master’s student who might stick around for a PhD. I am hesitant if I am interested in a PhD so I have chosen to start with a master’s to decide if it is the right path for me. One of the major deciding factors for choosing UCONN was the culture that I experienced when I came to visit last spring. Unlike other schools that I visited, this department is very friendly and students are familiar with each other outside of their lab groups. I believe that this is strongly due the ChEGSA organization and that is why I decided to get involved. In my time here I am researching the development of a new spatial atomic layer deposition method to deposit complex, thin, multi-layer films utilizing the principles of an air hockey table. I hope to one-day work in the field of developing alternative energy. Beyond academics, I have been playing rugby for including 9 years including Division 1-A rugby at both University at Buffalo and UConn. I am also an avid outdoorsman, I enjoy playing video games with my friends (especially super smash bros), and I try to travel someplace new at least once a year. GO BILLS!
